Terms of Service

Eligibility & your account

You must be at least 16 years old to use Pledger. You're responsible for the content you add, for keeping your login secure, and for anything that happens under your account. Don't use Pledger for anything unlawful.

Subscriptions & billing

• Pledger is offered on a monthly or annual subscription, shown at checkout on /pricing, plus a free trial where offered.
• Subscriptions auto-renewat the end of each billing period until cancelled. Cancel any time from Settings; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
• If you don't cancel before a free trial ends, your card is charged the plan price and the subscription begins. We'll remind you before that happens.
• EU/UK right of withdrawal:if you're a consumer in the EU or UK, you may cancel your first paid subscription within 14 days of the first charge for a full refund, provided you haven't made substantial use of paid features in that time. This is in addition to, not instead of, your ability to cancel auto-renewal at any time.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Accountability commitments

Pledger lets you put a task on the line with a real deadline. If you complete it, nothing happens. If you miss it, the people you've chosen - a circle, or accountability contacts - are notified, based on the settings you chose when you created the commitment. Evidence you submit may be reviewed automatically, by AI, or taken on your word, depending on the mode you picked. Appeals against a missed deadline are judged by AI against strictness rules you set for yourself in advance.

Some commitment settings ("locks") are designed to be difficult to reverse quickly, by your own choice, once enabled - that's the point of the feature. Read what a lock does before turning it on.

Money stakes. You can optionally attach a real monetary stake to a commitment. This is always opt-in, per commitment: you choose the amount (between $1 and $1,000), you explicitly authorize the charge when creating the stake, and you save a payment card for this purpose via our payment processor (Stripe). Your card is charged only if you miss the commitment deadline, including any grace period you selected. If you complete the commitment in time, nothing is charged - ever.

Where forfeited money goes. Forfeited stakes are retained by Pledger as revenue. They are not donated to charity and are not held for you.

Fairness and appeals. Evidence rules are set by you when you create the commitment, and genuinely ambiguous outcomes are resolved in your favor. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact support or use the in-app appeal - upheld appeals are refunded. A separate demo mode exists that exercises the same flow without any real charge.

AI coaching

AI responses (in-app, or via WhatsApp/Telegram if you connect them) are guidance generated from the context you've given Pledger. They are not professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice, and they are not a substitute for a qualified professional. Use your own judgement, especially for anything affecting your health, finances, or safety.

Circles & community conduct

When you join or create an accountability circle, you can see other members' names, streaks, and shared content, and they can see yours. Be respectful. Don't harass, threaten, or share others' private information without consent. You can report or block content and members from within the app; we may remove content or suspend accounts that violate this.

Accountability contacts

If you add someone as an accountability contact, you confirm they've agreed to receive a notice from Pledger if you miss a commitment. They can opt out at any time via a link we send them, and we'll stop notifying them.

Your content & our intellectual property

You own what you create in Pledger (goals, journals, reviews, etc.) and can export or delete it at any time. We own the Pledger app, brand, and underlying software. Using Pledger doesn't give you any rights to those beyond using the service as intended.

Termination

You can delete your account any time from Settings → Delete account - this is immediate (or delayed if you've enabled the account-deletion lock on an active commitment) and permanent. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or abuse the service.

Disclaimers & liability

Pledger is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that using Pledger will result in you achieving any particular goal or outcome. To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer-protection law (including your statutory rights as an EU/UK consumer, which these Terms don't affect).

Governing law

These Terms are governed by [governing law / jurisdiction TBD]. If you're a consumer resident in the EU or UK, you also benefit from any mandatory protections of the law of your own country of residence, regardless of this clause.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app changes. If a change is material, we'll let you know in-app or by email before it takes effect.
